10 finalists of the Hong Kong Outstanding Students Award 2018-19 and more than 20 members of Youth Committee participated in a poverty experiential program at Tuen Mun Crossroads Foundation on 23 August.

In the stimulation, students were required to produce raw paper bags and undergo unfair trade transactions to experience the oppressed lives of slum dwellers.

Although it was only a 30-minute simulation experience, which was negligible to the daily life of the poor, students were deeply impressed by the hardships that they have had never imagined.

After the simulation, the instructors shared what they had seen and heard in slums of different countries and led students to think about possible ways to alleviate poverty.

This event allows students to broaden their horizons, care about the world, and even be inspired to help others, so as to fulfill their responsibilities as global citizens.
