To me, “outstanding” is the pursuit of excellence through self-transcendence, exploration, and innovation. It encompasses the adherence to one’s true self amidst adversity and the dedication to making consistent effort, serving the community, and inspiring others.
I have always been passionate about technology. With the strong support from the school, I had the opportunity to explore the applications of AI and have successfully completed various projects utilising the Internet of Things, blockchain, and AI. One of the highlights is “FLAI,” short for “Follow to Learn An Instrument,” which aims to solve the problem of incorrect posture during unguided practices in double bass beginners. Using IoT sensors, AI posture detection, and voice recognition modules, instant feedback is given to the users to enhance practice efficiency. I have had the privilege to implement this project on campus and in my local community, which allowed me to fully understand the infinite possibilities brought by technological advancements. These experiences have reinforced my belief that technology should fundamentally benefit people and the community.
I believe that it is equally important to let my peers develop digital literacy and the spirit of innovation; therefore, I spearheaded the DGS Metaverse project. It was the first-ever immersive virtual bazaar, where users navigate through a student-built virtual campus to purchase student-produced products, integrating e-commerce and metaverse concepts into a traditional school event. Leading a team of over 80 committee members, over 200 students were actively involved, many of which were inspired to start their own tech projects. All proceeds from these sales were reinvested into IT education within our school, in order tofoster a culture of innovation.
In school, I served as Head Prefect, leading the Prefects’ Board in organising large-scale events such as the annual charity bazaar, which was attended by over 3000 visitors. As Chairlady of the Technology and Innovation Team, I led a 100-member team to compete in the International Youth Tech Olympics 2023, achieving multiple champion titles and the overall championship. I also actively volunteer for organisations like LinkSTEM to promote the importance of STEM education. Juggling between leadership roles, passion projects, and academics was challenging, and there were moments when I doubted whether I was capable of fulfilling all my responsibilities. Eventually, I learnt to focus on the present and progress through consistent effort, as well as to accept things as they come. Every experience, be it opportunities or obstacles, ultimately contributes to my personal growth and is a step closer to achieving my dreams.
I am truly honoured to be awarded the HKOSA, and I would like to express my gratitude towards DGS, especially towards my headmistress, Mrs. Lau, for her unwavering guidance and support, as well as the vast opportunities and resources that allowed us to discover our talents, strive for excellence, and put our school motto, “Daily Giving Service,” into practice. I would also like to extend my appreciation to my family, teachers, and friends for their unconditional love and support.
Looking ahead, I would like to continue looking into how AI and technology can be incorporated into medicine and healthcare. In this ever-changing world, I strive to steadfastly pursue my dreams, working towards a future where young and old alike could benefit from the warmth of technology. I am more excited than ever to embark on this journey—to keep learning, keep thriving, and keep giving.
