
Dr. Edward Cheung, BBS is currently Consultant to the law firm Woo, Kwan, Lee & Lo (Solicitors and Notaries), with expertise in corporate matters, IPO, mergers & acquisitions, security laws and China related matters. He is also serving as Director at six listed companies in Hong Kong including Vice Chairmanship in Sunevision Holdings Limited and SmarTone Telecommunications Holdings Limited.
Dr. Cheung is active in community services. He is currently a director and member of the executive committee of The Community Chest of Hong Kong, co-deputy chairman of Sponsorship & Development Fund Committee and court member of The Open University of Hong Kong,Honorary Council Member of The Hong Kong Institute of Directors Limited. Previously, Dr. Cheung served as the deputy chairman of The Open University of Hong Kong (2008-2014), a member of the Appeal Board established under the Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications Ordinance (2007-2013), a member of the Labour and Welfare Bureau’s Lump Sum Grant Steering Committee (2013-2015), a member of the Board of Review (Inland Revenue Ordinance) (2002 – 2010), Deputy Chairman of The Hong Kong Institute of Directors Limited (2009-2010), Vice Chairman of the Mainland Legal Affairs Committee of the Law Society of Hong Kong (1999 – 2005), External Examiner to the University of Hong Kong Postgraduate Certificate in Law (1989), and Director at Po Leung Kuk (1975 – 1976). Dr. Cheung was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS) in 2013. He was conferred in November 2016 an Honorary Doctoral Degree in Business Administration by the Open University of Hong Kong in recognition of his contribution to the University and to the Hong Kong community.
Dr. Cheung received a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting from the University of New South Wales, Australia and is a member of CPA Australia. Dr. Cheung has been a practicing solicitor in Hong Kong since 1979. He was admitted as a solicitor in the United Kingdom and as an advocate and solicitor in Singapore.
