Having the ability to realise our own potential is impressive; having the ability to manifest it in uplifting people around you, however, is what I believe defines “outstanding”.
I served as the President of the 49th Student Association, voted directly by my fellow schoolmates. During my term of office, I led my cabinet in organising a wide array of school functions and charitable events aiming to promote students’ comprehensive welfare and all-rounded development. For instance, we sold over 600 tickets to the public in the Annual Talent Quest ‘Resplendence’ (November 2023), using it as a resplendent stage for fellow students to unleash their musical talents which they have been unaware of or shy for stage. It was a spectacular night. The organizers, participants and the audience alike, were energized and encouraged, in the words of the adjudicators: an unbelievably amazing, professional and outstanding performance put up in a secondary school. Another project I felt uplifting is the Joint School Leadership Training Camp we initiated (July 2024), a fascinating 3-day programme in which different school leaders worked closely, giving their best to equip participants — future leaders of their respective communities — with the necessary skill sets and vision to strive in a team setting.
As the Captain of the School Handball Team, I am happy to be able to inspire my fellow members on their resilience and camaraderie: “never say die” was our chant, and together with the strong team spirit we were able to persevere through many frustrating moments on court, defeating formidable opponents one after another in the inter-school tournaments.
My musical journey has not been one of smooth sailing. It began at the age of four and has been filled with tremendous hard work, endless hours of practice and trading of a big part of social life ever since. In 2022, I have the fortune to be selected as a Young Scholar by renowned pianist Lang Lang, and received full scholarships under his foundation and the FIF for a distinguished piano enrichment programme. Knowing deeply these opportunities are a blessing and favour from the community, I spend my weekends today offering piano lessons to underprivileged children for free, hoping to inspire them and enliven their lives as music has done for me.
Representing Hong Kong in the International Economics Olympiad this summer has reaffirmed my passion for economics and my drive to tackle the complex socio-economics challenges faced by Hong Kong. In the future, I hope to contribute to a more just, harmonious and equitable society— in which everyone is given the chance to strive toward their unique version of “outstanding”.
