Back when I was young, I have always been wondering, if I were to choose between my passion and my strengths, which one should I go for? Luckily, I did not have to make the choice as these two terms mean the same to me .
As a part-time long jump athlete cum full-time student, the sport witnessed both my mental and physical growth. Having accumulated invaluable experiences from competitions, I have learnt to cope with stress properly while making steady progress. However, the road to pursuing passion is not always smooth. I have also experienced failures, thereafter I have felt upset, but it is this unwavering passion that propels me forward and not to give up. After reflecting on my mistakes and areas for improvement, I became more mature, stood back up and trained even harder, aiming to perform better in the next competition.
Unfortunately, there are instances in our lives that are uncontrollable . For instance, the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted people from all over the world. When we are facing the same problem, what matters most is the ability to quickly adapt and adjust. Under the repeating cycle of online classes every day, when can life return to normal was once completely unknown to us. In this regard, alongside my parents, I have constructed a daily exercise routine in the few months where training with my coach was halted. Through working out on a daily basis, I was hoping to maintain my physical conditions and abilities. Meanwhile, I have also successfully influenced people around me to build up the good practice of exercising during the pandemic, when it was particularly difficult to get some fresh air outside our homes, to stay fit and healthy. As the saying goes, many a little makes a mickle. Thanks to the little exercises I have persisted every day, I broke the Hong Kong U18 long jump record at the age of 14 as soon as the competition season returned.
In the future, with no doubt that I will strive to do my best and aim for more breakthroughs. In the meantime, I hope to influence people around me with my own power, passing them my courage and faith in overcoming obstacles on the road to chasing our dreams. Spreading positivity in society, I would like to tell everyone that they are not alone on their gruelling journey to meet their targets, so that we can all work hard together towards our own goals.
The definition of outstanding may vary from person to person, but I am sure that as long as one has a heart of giving, devoting and inspiring others with positivity, it would already make one outstanding.
