I believe that being outstanding means not only achieving personal success, but also actively inspiring the community through one’s passions. My main interests are mathematics and music, and I am committed to improving my skills while encouraging others to find joy in these fields.

Growing up with a love for mathematics, I see it as a blend of creativity and critical thinking. Participating in mathematical modelling competitions has shown me how to utilise mathematical tools to tackle real-life problems. However, I have noticed that many students in Hong Kong view mathematics as a boring subject with little use. To change this perception, I have worked to promote mathematics in creative ways through school and joint-school societies. As the former external vice president and student advisor of the Hong Kong Joint School Mathematics Society, I led our team to post interesting math problems on social media, aiming to showcase the beauty of the subject. This year, I initiated a partnership with Jane Street on behalf of the society and incorporated real-life STEM applications into our Interschool Mathematics Contest, gaining the success of a record-breaking number of participants.

In addition to mathematics, I have a deep passion for music. I began learning violin and piano from a young age and served as the concertmistress of my school orchestra. Over the years, I have performed in almost 100 concerts ranging from solo performances and recitals to orchestral programmes. I particularly enjoy taking part in community-oriented musical events, such as National Day celebrations, festive flash mobs, and community fundraising concerts.

In 2024, I co-founded the CDCC Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, a student-led youth orchestra dedicated to serving the underprivileged through charity concerts. As the concertmistress and a founding committee member, I helped to organise 3 concerts in collaboration with a church. We brought together student musicians all across Hong Kong to play challenging repertoire, and bring joy to audiences who might not have experienced classical music before. The heartfelt reactions we received reminded me of the power of music, and urged me to continue to use music as a tool to make a difference in the community.

I am truly honoured to receive the Hong Kong Outstanding Students Award, and I would like to express my gratitude towards DGS and my headmistress Mrs. Lau, for her guidance, which allows me to discover my talents and pursue excellence. I would also like to thank my family, teachers, and friends for their unwavering love and support along the way. Looking ahead, I am eager to use my skills and talents to spread passion and nurture love within the community, one step at a time.
