To me, being outstanding encompasses unwavering perseverance in the pursuit of personal goals, and the ability to inspire others along the way.
As an athlete, I came to understand that achieving success required more than just physical prowess; it demanded immense mental fortitude and dedication. My athletics journey since primary two has been full of challenges, especially when I transitioned from a sprinter to a hurdler. I vividly remember how my legs trembled as I faced the daunting hurdle before me, yet amidst the fear, a flicker of courage propelled me forward, and in that fleeting moment in mid-air, I felt exhilarated, knowing that I had dared to challenge the limits of my capabilities.
It was this unyielding determination that guided me through the obstacles I encountered, such as injuries from falling right in front of the finishing line or bottleneck periods. Striking a balance between my academic curriculum and rigorous training schedules proved challenging, but I realized that with discipline and effective time management, they could co-exist. In the face of adversity, I learned the value of patience and resilience, understanding that setbacks are opportunities for growth and a chance to transcend my limits, instead of barriers that hinder my potential.
I was fortunate enough to represent Hong Kong in international competitions, earning medals and gaining eye-opening experiences that broadened my perspective and solidified my vision to excel in this career. The qualities I have cultivated extend far beyond the realms of athletics, equipping me with resilience and tenacity to pursue my dreams relentlessly, overcoming any obstacle that life may present.
Beyond personal growth, athletics has given me a platform to inspire others. As the captain of my school’s athletics team, I assisted in training sessions in which I shared my athletic journey with teammates. I hope that my experiences will show others it is possible to hurdle through difficulties with resilience, and motivate them to follow their passions and believe in their potential.
I am deeply honored to receive the HKOSA, and I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude towards my principal, Mrs Lau, for her unfailing guidance and the multitude of opportunities provided, enabling me to explore my passion. I would also like to extend my appreciation to my family, my coach, teachers and friends for their unconditional love and support throughout.
I promise to fully utilize my abilities to be a positive influence, to aid those in need in our society, and to motivate those around me to believe in themselves, for with perseverance, even the seemingly insurmountable hurdles will become stepping stones to success.
