All grown-ups were once children… but only few of them remember it. – The Little Prince
To me, being outstanding is equivalent to possessing the fearlessness of a child, and to be most passionate of our beliefs, while always holding them close to heart.
Influence others with words have always held a special meaning to me. In fact, it at some point defined my identity. In my junior years, the pandemic broke out, I felt like the monotonous life I was living was quite meaningless. After a while, I finally identified the greatest barrier of mine in respect to social connection. It was loneliness. We were all stuck pacing between the walls of our room, in which life became so utterly unbearable that people began to post all sorts of depressing messages on social media.
That was when I made a vow to heal others with the power of words. I wished that we, as fellow humans, could understand each other, and support those in need. Because who would save us if we do not try to help one another? I created an account on Instagram and regularly shared sweet memories, hoping to a ignite a flame of influence, and inspire those who are lost in isolation. At the time, it helped me to feel less alone in return as well.
As I grew up, my passion started to change with time as well. I wished to encourage a deeper understanding of humanity with the power of words. In this hectic era, it is challenging for us to truly appreciate and ‘feel’ the beauty of literature, which is woven by the thread of human emotions. I found this rather much of a loss to most people, for literature could really fulfill us when it is understood. A few years ago, I began sharing novels online, writing about memories, peculiar moments, emotions, and hopes. I strive to illustrate a variety of perspectives and twists in my tales, hoping to deepen my readers’ thoughtfulness, especially concerning the small things and invisible things in life, such as human bonds and emotions.
I also hope to bring about change through immediate actions. I served as the head prefect at school, paying attention to the needs of my schoolmates and acting as a bridge of communication between students and teachers. I had the opportunity to attain recognition in various English public speaking competitions, such as the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups English Public Speaking Contest 2022 and the 19th China Daily ‘21st Century-Xueersi Cup’ National Junior High School English Speaking competition. Through my speeches, I wished to encourage the audience to pursue their dreams, and to advocate the thought that so long as we step out of our comfort zone and try for once, we would all be able to find understanding in the world, and live the most meaningful lives.
‘Maybe our favorite quotations say more about us than about the stories and people we’re quoting.’ I guess John Green was right all along.
